POLICE are appealing for witnesses to help track down a man who has indecently assaulted a sleeping teenager on a Melbourne to Bendigo train.
The 19-year-old woman victim boarded the train at North Melbourne Station around 8.20pm (AEDT) on Friday and sat next to a man who was in a window seat facing the front.
Police says the teenager fell asleep soon after getting on the train.
"It is from this point the alleged indecent assault occurred as the female was sleeping," Detective Senior Constable Marcus Uren said in a statement on Saturday.
Police are anxious to speak with anyone who caught the 8.15pm V/Line train between Southern Cross Station and Gisborne on Friday, especially anyone who sat in the rear carriages.
"We're looking for anyone who saw a man, aged in his 20s, with dark skin, sitting next to a caucasian woman," Det Snr Const Uren said.
A 24-year-old man was arrested at Gisborne train station but was released pending further investigations.
